Over the course of the 4 1/2 years Dark Shadows was on t.v., the show featured several wonderful portraits that played prominent roles in the various story lines. The most popular by far was the portrait of Barnabas Collins. (Below left) We see the original Barnabas portrait that was used in the making of HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS. This photo of it was taken in 1992 while it was on display at the Lyndhurst mansion for Dark Shadows Days in Tarrytown. I always thought it would be neat to own this, and a few of the other portraits. Several years back I had a drum scan done of a close-up of this portrait, and with some technical help from a photo shop I was able to reproduce it on actual canvas using an ink jet printing process. (See center photo) I mounted this particular canvas on stretcher bars for a customer, and he in turn had it framed himself. The finished product now adorns a wall in his family room. A pretty nice conversation piece. (See far right photo)

BELOW: The last few years I have done a few of the other portraits using this process. Below we see the 1795 Angelique portrait. I donated one of the 1795 Angelique portraits to the charity auction at the 1999 festival. Lara Parker auctioned it off, with the proceeds going to her charity.

BELOW: One of the most colorful of all the portraits that appeared on Dark Shadows was the Phoenix with her son David. Unfortunately for the audience, this portrait was only ever seen in black and white on the show. I managed to replicate this beautiful portrait on canvas using only a 2" X 2" photograph that a fan had taken of it while it hung in the lobby of ABC Studios during the time Dark Shadows was being taped there.

Finally we see the canvas of the Dorian Gray type Quentin portrait. Another of my personal favorites, this particular portrait really draws a raised eyebrow when strangers first see it.

The canvas of these portraits measures between 20 to 22" wide by 24 to 26" high depending on the individual portrait. A rolled canvas of any of these designs is available to purchase for $175.00, and is shipped in a commercial grade mailing tube.
