My friend Astrid and I, with croquet mallets in hand, pose in front of the turn of the century playhouse known as Rose Cottage. The weather could not have been any nicer, as temperatures were in the mid to upper 70's most of the day. Several of us decided to go search in the nearby woods for the remains of Spratt House (The Old House on the tv series) and, despite the fact that we were unable to locate it this time, we did stumble across remains of another structure. The leaves had already turned, making the walk through the woods that much more picturesque. Afterwards, I joined Mark Rainey & Elizabeth Massie, co-authors of the latest Dark Shadows novel, Dreams of the Dark, in touring the perimeter of the Estate. In the chapters that Mark wrote for the book, he makes several references to places or things located on the Lyndhurst Estate. In these two bottom photos below, we see Mark & Elizabeth posing in front of the bridge area used for one of the final scenes in Night of Dark Shadows where Gerard falls to his death after struggling with Quentin. Also pictured: Mark and Elizabeth pose for a photo of an interesting backside view of Lyndhurst. Mark had mentioned that this perspective of Collinwood might have been enjoyed by vampire Thomas Rathburn in the novel Dreams of the Dark, as he walked up from the cottage on the Estate.
Below: More scenic photos from the grounds of Lyndhurst featuring CynD and LouceeA. The bottom left photo depicts the Tappanzee Bridge in the background, and the bottom right photo shows the greenhouse, which has been restored and converted into a courtyard. These photographs courtesy of Rich De Vicariis.
