After that visit at Louie's house in June of 1998, I didn't see him again until the Festival in NY in August of 1999. For health reasons he was unable to make it out to Las Vegas for the Festival in July of 1998. I did keep in contact with him via the telephone and letters throughout 1998, and he was hoping to join us out at Fire Island in May of 1999 but unfortunately was battling a bout of pneumonia at the time. The fans were always very supportive of Louie and when they learned that he had pneumonia several of them posted on the bulletin boards that they would like to send him get well wishes. I offered to forward them on for whoever wanted to do so, and, along with the photo of the sunset (pictured below) I had taken on the 1999 trip to Fire Island, I sent them along to Louie. A short time later Louie sent me back the note below.

Louie did indeed make it to the festival that year. As you can see from the photos he looked wonderful. He sang a song to a small boy named Bobby before one of the Q&A's. At this time it was very strenuous for Louis to go for extended periods of time without resting, so it was really special that he could find the strength to sing the song to Bobby.
