In the spring/summer of 1998 at Louie's request, Guy took a leave of absence from his nursing position in Maryland to come up to NY and be Louie's home health care nurse. It was during this time that, along with a few other friends, we really got a chance to get to know Louie outside the confines of a Dark Shadows Festival. We had just returned to the New York area from a trip that included stops at Dark Shadows locales in Tarrytown, NY, Essex, Connecticut, and Newport, Rhode Island, where we spent a couple days at Seaview Terrace. (Collinwood on TV) 

Guy had hoped to make the trip up with us, but, due to his taking care of Louie, he was unable to, so upon our return to the NY area, Louie suggested that he invite us over for a visit. We were planning on going out to Fire Island the next day to spend some time at one of the girls in our group's beach house, so we were able to take Louie up on the invitation. Louie has a lovely home on Long Island, and gave us a guided tour of it, as well as a tour of the grounds. He has a wonderful "secret garden," as he called it, that has a pond in it. Below is a photo of our group gathered around the pond looking at the various species of fish and other creatures that inhabited it. Also pictured are Louis and I standing in front of a set of doors that are flanked by two interesting shutters. Interesting because they are two shutters that Louie "borrowed" from Spratt House (The Old House on the t.v.show) He has often recounted this story at past Festivals of how he had been stranded out at the house after a filming and while waiting around for a ride noticed these shutters. He removed them from their hinges and tossed them in to a truck that eventually brought them to studio the studio in NYC and from there he took them out to his home. Finally, a touching moment as Guy gives Louie a peck on the cheek.

These photos below were made by my friend Cindy. She initially used the famous photo of Jonathan & Louis on Fire Island and decided to insert me in to it. (She is a sick girl ha ha) Louis got a real kick out of the photos, and said he "couldn't wait to get a frame around it". After seeing the photos we talked to him about Fire Island. He wanted to know what beach we were going out to and how long we planned to stay. He told us about his trips to the Island in his younger days and how much he enjoyed going out there. My friend Astrid told him that he was welcomed to join us out there anytime, and he said he would take her up on the offer some time.
